🌈 Summary Kai, a popular jock with a rebellious streak, is punished with clearing the old library at his school after he lashes out at a member of its LGBT+ club. Kai suffers from internalised homophobia because he is gay, and comes from a religious and homophobic family, so he acts out. In the course of his punishment, he encounters a boy named Sammy, a reserved, book-loving boy who offers to help Kai with his punishment in exchange for advice on his social life. Kai reluctantly agrees and soon develops a friendship with Sammy, which soon blossoms into a crush. Kai is terrified of the truth coming out, especially when Sammy reveals to him that he is bisexual. At a party, the truth about what Kai did to get punished is revealed, which leads to a confrontation. Kai eventually confesses the truth to Sammy in a heart-to-heart, and they officially begin dating. Kai still has to hide himself from his family, which is very distressing and nerve-wracking for him. Still, with Sammy’s support, Kai improves in academics and manages to earn a scholarship to the same college Sammy will be attending. Kai knows he will have to tell his family the truth eventually. This scares him, but being with Sammy gives him the strength to keep going forward.
