Wednesday Breakfast: Holding the Man with Harley Wilcher & Caleb Sweet

Harley Wilcher and Caleb Sweet join Brett and Scott on JOY Breakfast ahead of opening night of Holding the Man at Williamstown Little Theatre.

Playing Timothy Conigrave and John Caleo, Harley and Caleb reflect on stepping into one of Australia’s most enduring queer love stories, the responsibility of keeping Tim and John’s story alive, and the emotional weight of revisiting the AIDS crisis through their characters.

They also chat about their journeys as performers, building trust in the rehearsal room, the moments in the play that hit hardest, and what they hope a new generation of audiences will take away from this deeply personal story of love, resilience and loss.

Holding the Man, adapted for the stage by Tommy Murphy from Timothy Conigrave’s memoir, plays at Williamstown Little Theatre until 26 September 2026.
