‘From All Sides’ puts a multicultural, bisexual Australian family at the centre of a story about relationships, identity and sexuality, but does important representation automatically make compelling cinema? Suzy Wrong explores the uncomfortable gap between admiring what a film is trying to say and actually connecting with the way it tells its story, and why we shouldn’t feel guilty for criticising art simply because its themes matter.
