That summertime feeling is setting in and there are a lot of events on the rainbow calendar! From Mental Health Week to the JOY Annual General Meeting to planning for Midsumma, diverse community events are being covered at JOY!

From The Woods: Mental Health

Mark and Dene, along with new intern Robbie, put their emphasis on Mental Health Week and World Mental Health Day. They’re joined by Craig Ingrey to discuss mindfulness, triggers, life experience of mental illness, and more.

From Saturday Magazine: Totally On Board

This week, Pete is joined by Tas and Ian in the midst of a vote for new board members at JOY. Martin Foley, minister for everything, is asked for his thoughts on how same sex couples could now adopt legally.

From On The Line: Swinburne Uni Celebrates Pride 

Recently Swinburne University celebrated diversity with a day of Pride.  Vice Chancellor Linda Kristjanson also announced the Uni will sponsor the 2015 Midsumma Festival, becoming the first uni in the country to financially support an LGBTI festival. Dean was there and caught up with Jeffrey Smart, Vice-President (International and Students) to find out why Swinburne considered the LGBTI community so important. 

From Been There Done That: The Calendar

Happening this week are Mental Health Week, Seniors Festival, Lesbian Day on 08/10/2015 which was first celebrated in 1980 in NZ and on 10/10/2015 is the big Northside Bizarre at the Laird Hotel. In 7/10/1798 Bass and Flinders set off to find out if Van Diemen’s land was part of the mainland. Bass was rumoured to be one of us!  Captain Cook landed on NZ this week on 08/10/1769 and mapped both islands.
