Untouchable girls – Show #393 (part 2), 31 May 2026

6 Aug 202649 min

During the second hour of today’s show, Katie honours beloved queer musician, comedian and activist Dame Jools Topp of Aotearoa New Zealand’s legendary Topp Twins, who died on 23 May from breast cancer, with a special segment. Along with her sister Lynda, Jools’ career began in the early 1980s and the Topp Twins became household names. Katie outlines their achievements, including some of their many honours and awards; reads tributes to Jools from social media posts by Bob Downe, Judy Small and Tami Neilson; plays a snippet from Tami’s heartfelt words at this week’s Aotearoa Music Awards (featuring a salute to LGBTQIA+ people); and highlights Lynda’s incredible speech at the Awards. Here is the playlist:

  • Under the Stars – Watty Thompson
  • Untouchable Girls – Topp Twins
  • Mustang Mountain – Topp Twins
  • Princess Leia Was Robbed – Tuck Shop Ladies
  • State of Disarray – Dusken Lights
  • When I Get Better – Amber Farnan
  • Little Bones – Possum
  • Rain on Havana (Chicago Version) – Tom West

A celebration of Dame Jools Topp’s life was held at the Auckland Viaduct Events Centre on 19 June 2026; watch it on YouTube.
