Hiding My Culture: Growing Up Indian (And Queer) In A Small Town

28 Nov 202532 min

In this episode, I share what it was really like growing up queer and Indian-Canadian in a suburban, predominantly white town during the mid-90s to early 2000s. As a kid, I struggled with my South Asian identity and often felt disconnected from my culture, not because I didn’t love it, but because I subconsciously absorbed the pressures of fitting in where I saw so little representation. Despite hiding parts of myself as a teenager to belong, I’ve grown to fully embrace the richness of my Indian heritage and continue to learn more about myself every day.
